This report is a landmark effort by Greenish, in partnership with Climate Outreach, to map and understand the civic climate engagement landscape in Egypt.
Ahead of COP27, we conducted a comprehensive mapping of 283 civil society organizations (CSOs) across Egypt to assess their role, challenges, and potential in engaging the public on climate change. The study highlights how climate engagement in Egypt remains limited to a small group of urban-based organizations, while many regional CSOs are structurally excluded due to funding barriers, limited capacity, and weak networks.
Through this report, we aim to amplify local voices, particularly from marginalized and rural communities, and propose actionable solutions from adopting the UNFCCC’s Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) framework to establishing national CSO networks and creating more inclusive funding mechanisms. The findings offer a pathway toward a more decentralized, empowered, and coordinated civil society response to the climate crisis in Egypt.
